Fabulous, 30 mile views from every room and Spring like weather all year 'round. We're in the western central highlands of Mexico at an elevation of about 5,200 ft.
Our mountainside home looks out over: - 100+ acres of meadows and fields - then the town of Chapala (about 2 miles away) - then Lake Chapala (at 50x13 miles, the largest in Mexico) - then across the lake to the southern side of the encircling ring of mountains.
With huge windows to the south and west, our home is full of light in all seasons. We have a small and growing collection of Mexican folk art and a rather eclectic collection of music CD's, DVD's and books. Between the art and the furniture our house is also full of COLOR and FUN. Tile floors throughout.
Upstairs, our home has a master bedroom (queen) with ensuite bath. This room also has a handcarved desk with computer (Internet access) and printer. - The guest room (queen) is directly across the hall from a full guest bath. - The TV room has a comfortable futon sleep sofa (double) and shares use of the guest bath. Also upstairs is the washer and dryer.
Downstairs our home is one room plus another full bath with an outside entrance for pool users - the kitchen is small but fully equipped - the dining table (handcarved and painted in vivid colors!) seats 4 (6 in a pinch) - the living area consists of 2 love seats and a comfy arm chair and opens onto a southern exposure terrace as well as a covered, western exposure terrace.
Outside, on our open 'morning' terrace (so called because it's a wonderful place to have your tea and watch the sun rise) are 2 high chairs and a bistro table - the covered 'sunset' terrace (off the living area to the west) holds glider type furniture and also has a wet bar - the covered pool terrace is where our masseuse usually sets up (it's curtained for privacy) - the pool itself is about 4 ft deep throughout and 13x30 ft - the jardin (garden) has a nice sized grass plot surrounded by a variety of bright flowering plants as well as a few fruit trees: papaya, black fig, and grapefruit.
Our caretaker will make sure that everthing runs properly during your stay. He cares for the pool, the jardin, and any problems in the house. We have a maid in once a week for a couple of hours - at 70.00 pesos (about $7.00 US)per visit you may want to use her also. Our masseuse (about$12.00US) is available to visit 1, 2 or 3 times per week if you would like.
Nearby is great shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Small villages, mid sized towns and the 2nd largest city in Mexico (Guadalajara) are within a few minutes drive.
Our neighborhood is quiet, we get no 'fly overs' in spite of the Guadalajara airport being only 25 minutes away. As is the case with most of the north shore of Lake Chapala, our neighborhood is a lovely mix of Mexicans, Americans and Canadians with a sprinkling of folks from a number of other countries.
This area is home to the largest community of ex-pat Americans and Canadians anywhere in the world. Fortunately, it's charm and the graciousness of it's people remain intact.

Family of 3 Adults |
Rick (61)and Leigh (57) are semi retired Travel and Tourism industry professionals who owned and managed a luxury camp resort in the eastern US. After years of 80 & 100 hour work weeks, we are enjoying life to the fullest. We like to: read, walk, bird watch, meet lots of interesting folks from all over the world, eat great food, collect folk art, and see new places!
Right now we are looking for an exchange in Melbourne, Australia for June, July & August 2006 (all or part) For an Australia exchange only, daughter Kristen (35) will be with us. She has been invited to the Melbourne Museum to work on a project for them that will also allow her to finish her Masters in Folklore degree.
For other exchanges, we are interested in seeing as much of the world as we can! |
